A Semi, a Minivan, and a Pile of Rink Parts
The Day Our NiceRink Delivery Took Over the County Road
When we started Polar Bear Rinks, we knew there would be learning curves—but we didn’t think our first big lesson would come with a semi-truck.
We had placed what we thought was a relatively small order of parts from NiceRink, excited to kick off our first season building backyard ice rinks across Minnesota. What we didn’t expect? That small order showing up in a full-size tractor trailer.
There was just one problem: our driveway isn’t exactly made for 18-wheelers.
The driver took one look and knew he wasn’t getting up there. Fortunately, he was incredibly patient—and my wife was ready with a backup plan. Together, they unboxed every single piece right there on the shoulder of the county road and loaded it into our minivan, shuttle-style, trip after trip.
Was it chaotic? Yes.
Did we learn a valuable lesson about delivery logistics? Absolutely.
Would we do it all again? Maybe—with a few tweaks.
We're Officially Stocked and Ready to Build
Despite the unconventional drop-off, the delivery went off without a hitch (eventually). Now we’re stocked up with our first official NiceRink materials, and we couldn’t be more excited to start helping families build their dream backyard rinks.
Whether you’re looking to buy or rent, we offer professional backyard ice rink installation all across Minnesota. And the best part? We offer free consultations—and we’ll even bring along some sample materials so you can see and feel the quality for yourself.
Why NiceRink?
We chose to partner with NiceRink because of their top-quality components, proven track record, and commitment to outdoor hockey traditions. Their boards, liners, and brackets are built to last and designed specifically for the challenges of a Midwest winter.
If you're looking to build your own backyard ice rink—or just curious about how it works—we’d love to chat.
