What to Expect When You Buy or Rent a Rink from Polar Bear Rinks

When you choose Polar Bear Rinks, we make the process easy, fun, and stress-free — from your first call to your first skate.

1. Site Visit & Planning
We’ll start with a free site visit to measure your yard and discuss your options. Every property is different, so we’ll assess the grade and determine whether any leveling or prep work is needed. A bit of slope is okay, but there are limits — and we’ll help you figure out the best layout for your space.

2. Board Installation (November)
Once the ground is ready, we’ll come out in November to install the rink boards and brackets. You’ll start to see your rink taking shape — and we’ll make sure everything is solid and ready for winter.

3. Liner & Flooding
When the weather is cold enough, we’ll return to roll out your liner and begin filling your rink with water using your outdoor hose. We’ll make sure it’s filling evenly and ready to freeze up for your first skate.

4. Enjoy Your Rink All Winter Long
From pickup games and family skates to late-night shinny and weekend hockey, your Polar Bear Rink is built for memories.

5. Spring Removal
When the season wraps up — usually in March or April — we’ll return to drain and remove your rink. If you purchased your rink, we can also store your boards and liner for next year.

What’s included in a rink rental or installation package?

Every Polar Bear Rinks package includes boards, liner, brackets, hardware, and setup. Rentals come with delivery, installation, and spring removal. You can also add lighting, hockey nets, or maintenance tools to complete the experience.

What kind of yard do I need for a backyard rink?

A flat or gently sloped yard is best, but we can work with slightly uneven ground too. During your free consultation, we’ll assess your space and recommend the right size and setup to make sure you get a smooth, safe skating surface.
